Voices of change, inspiration and ways of thinking teach many things. Though so often spoken and heard is a common expression about “making a difference.” Does anyone truly make a difference in communication and influence others to achieve excellence? I would like to discuss several examples of leaders and people in tandem whose communication value inspires others.
When you hear John Lennon’s voice or the musical notes strummed on his guitar, you hear excellence. However, the instrument of his lyrics that he and his fellow Beatles sang is what makes a difference.
Consider one of the verses of John Lennon’s song, Imagine:
You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one.
The Beatles music goes beyond to inspire musicians to create and communities of people to strive for peace. Ask young adults today how they relate to the Beatles music and you will see how this example of excellence will live on for future generations.
Known as the father of logic, Aristotle created a philosophy of good reasoning that is based on the scientific method. As long as the premise is true, according to Aristotle, the conclusion is also said to be true.
One of Aristotle’s famous quotes gives us an example of practical reasoning we may apply to achieve excellence:
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.
Aristotle was also the first to classify distinct disciplines of human knowledge such as mathematics, biology, and ethics. Aristotle inspired students in his philosophy of nature and philosophers to expand and contribute to the field of philosophy.
A large part of Steve Jobs’ success is attributed to user enthusiasm for Apple’s products. As Steve Jobs has once said,
Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.
Through technology, Steve Jobs and his team of developers at Apple Inc. have opened the door of communication around the world. For example, the 300,000 apps for Apple’s iPhone are the result of so many inspired developers who have explored new ways to communicate through tools, gizmos, and games.
As part of your communication toolset, remember: Make the most of your collective endeavors in messaging and sharing information.
May we be reminded of your great work? Let us know so we may help to acknowledge your excellence.
I would like to share with you one of our examples of making a difference. Our fundraising partner, Arlon Bennett, wrote the song, Be the Change in 2007, which is the basis for our fundraising program, Be the Change for a Sustainable Society. You will be inspired!
